Epilepsy Facts: *Epilepsy affects 3 million people in the United States - more than Multiple Sclerosis, Cerebral Palsy, Muscular Dystrophy, and Parkinson's disease combined! It affects 50 million people worldwide. *This year another 200,000 people will be diagnosed with Epilepsy. *The cause is unknown in two-thirds of patients. *Over 30% of patients do not have seizure control with treatment. Many more only have partial control. *Severe childhood Epilepsy Syndromes can cause developmental delay and brain damage. This can lead to a lifetime of dependency and high costs, both medical and social.
